VvR op WorldHostingDays

Van maandag 19 t/m vrijdag 23 maart a.s. vinden in het Europa-Park in Rust (Duitsland) de WorldHostingDays (WHD.global) plaats. Wij willen u er langs deze weg op attenderen dat de Vereniging van Registrars (VvR) met vijf bestuursleden aanwezig zal zijn, waar zij beschikbaar is voor contact met de achterban.

Over de WorldHostingDays
De WorldHostingDays worden sinds 2004 jaarlijks in Duitsland georganiseerd. In 2011 registreerden  ze in Duitsland zo’n 3.500 deelnemers van over de gehele wereld. Ondanks het feit dat in 2011 de eerste WHD.asia heeft plaatsgevonden en er vanwege het succes WHD evenementen over de gehele wereld zullen worden georganiseerd, blijven de WorldHostingDays in Duitsland het grootste en meest belangrijke internationale evenement voor de hostingindustrie ter wereld. About the WorldHostingDays
The WorldHostingDays have been organised annually in Germany since 2004. Last year’s gathering was attended by roughly 3,500 registrars from all over the world – despite the fact that 2011 saw the first WHD.asia. The success of WorldHostingDays has been so great that spin-off events are planned all around the world. Nevertheless, Rust remains the biggest and most important international hosting industry gathering anywhere. Wet van Dam/Facturatie
De VVR heeft extern juridisch advies ingewonnen met betrekking tot de wijzigingen die te verwachten zijn als gevolg van de aanpassingen in de artikelen van het Burgerlijk Wetboek over algemene voorwaarden die onredelijk worden geacht voor consumenten (‘Wet van Dam’). Voor deze personen geldt met ingang van 1 december 2011 een opzegtermijn van maximaal één maand na een eerste overeenkomst van (maximaal) een jaar. Mogelijkheden voor registrars zijn om jaarlijks expliciet een nieuwe overeenkomst met de klant af te sluiten. Eventueel zouden meerjarige overeenkomsten ook een mogelijkheid zijn, deze zijn dan wel na het eerste jaar ook maandelijks opzegbaar tenzij de consument een fiks voordeel heeft ontvangen voor het afsluiten bij de meerjarige overeenkomst. Commissie Techniek
Nadat de commissie Techniek volledig was ingesteld, is Ewout de Graaf benoemd als voorzitter van de commissie, waarna deze erg druk aan de gang is gegaan met overleg met SIDN inzake de implementatie van DNSSec en de nieuwe webinterface. Zowel vanuit de commissie als vanuit SIDN wordt er tevreden teruggekeken naar de resultaten. In de afgelopen maanden hebben we helaas afscheid moeten nemen van twee van onze zeer gewaardeerde collega’s van de commisie Techniek: Sander Manneke (voorheen werkzaam bij InternetToday) en Gerben Versluis (voorheen werkzaam bij WideXS). We zijn daarom op zoek naar nieuwe leden voor deze commissie; om zowel op competenties als op type registrar een goede representatie te krijgen vanuit het registrarveld hebben wij een voorkeur voor iemand die bij een relatief kleine registrar werkt en ook ervaring heeft met het gebruik van de DRS webinterface. Je kunt je aanmelding + motivatie sturen naar vz.techniek@verenigingvanregistrars.nl.

Commissie Marcom
Inmiddels heeft ook de eerste meeting van de Marketing & Communicatie Commissie plaatsgevonden. Tijdens deze meeting is uit ons midden een voorzitter gekozen: Tony Moore zal deze rol op zich nemen. Deze eerste meeting stond verder vooral in het teken van het opnieuw bepalen van doelstelling en strategie van de commissie. Functieprofiel, taken en rolverdeling zijn opnieuw tegen het licht gehouden. Daarnaast is een eerste afspraak met SIDN ingepland om de agenda voor de komende tijd vast te stellen, zodat wij direct concreet vervolg kunnen geven aan de doelstellingen en ambities.

Website
In de eerste helft van 2012 staat de introductie van de huisstijl en website van de Vereniging van Registrars gepland, waarbij de functionaliteiten gefaseerd worden geïntroduceerd. Binnen het bestuur is overlegd over welke functionaliteiten de nieuwe website dient te bevatten. De ontwikkeling van de website en huisstijl wordt uitbesteed.
Het is nadrukkelijk de wens van het bestuur en de commissies om via de website de registrars inzage te geven in de dossiers en adviesvraagstukken die door de vereniging worden behandeld. De bestuursleden en of de commissieleden die een dossier behandelen zullen tussentijdse updates gaan geven over het verloop van een dossier. Aan de registrars wordt via de website de gelegenheid geboden input te leveren op de dossiers. Daarnaast is het als registrar mogelijk om nieuwe vraagstukken voor te leggen aan het bestuur.

Raad van Toezicht
De Vereniging van Registrars is betrokken bij de benoeming van een lid van de Raad van Toezicht. Dit recht is bedongen door de initiatiefgroep van registrars die de Vereniging van Registrars hebben opgericht, en is vastgelegd in de samenwerkingsovereekomst die tussen VVR en SIDN gesloten is. De benoeming van een lid van de Raad van Toezicht is één van de speerpunten van het beleid van de VvR. De directie van SIDN heeft het recht om een advies van de VVR naast zich neer te leggen, maar de RvT kan er in principe op toezien dat men dit niet te lichtzinnig doet.

iPhone App
In september 2011 lanceerde SIDN een iPhone App, waarmee WHOIS-gegevens kunnen worden geraadpleegd. Verschillende registrars hebben zich bij de VVR gemeld om hun onvrede hierover te uiten. Sommige registrars hebben immers zelf geïnvesteerd in het ontwikkelen van een App en zien de App van SIDN als concurrentie. Bovendien biedt de SIDN App functionaliteiten aan die niet voor registrars beschikbaar zijn, namelijk de “alike”-functie (uitgebreider met wildcards zoeken dan registrars nu kunnen) en de “follow”-functie (bericht krijgen wanneer een domeinnaam van status verandert). Naar aanleiding van deze feedback heeft de VVR aan SIDN geadviseerd om de App offline te halen. SIDN ging hier niet in mee. Uiteindelijk is het bestuur van de VVR akkoord gegaan met een compromis, waarbij de App wel beschikbaar mocht blijven, zolang de discrepantie tussen de via de App aangeboden features en de voor de registrars beschikbare features wordt weggewerkt. Dat kan door ofwel deze features uit de App te schrappen ofwel deze ook aan de registrars beschikbaar te stellen. Deze uitkomst heeft het bestuur vervolgens ook op verschillende gelegenheden met registrars gecommuniceerd.

Tot onze verrassing bleek begin dit jaar toch een verschil van inzicht te zijn ontstaan tussen het bestuur van de VVR en de SIDN over de gemaakte afspraak. SIDN gaf aan wel de “alike”-functie uit de App te willen verwijderen, maar de “follow”-functie in stand te willen houden, om deze vervolgens pas tegen het eind van het jaar ook beschikbaar te maken voor registrars.
Uiteraard is het bestuur hier niet blij mee en dat is in klare taal met SIDN gecommuniceerd. SIDN blijft niettemin bij dit standpunt. De directeur van SIDN, dhr Roelof Meijer, geeft desgevraagd aan dat hij vermoedt dat het met de genoemde concurrentie door SIDN wel meevalt. En de geüite bezwaren vooral op emotie zijn gestoeld, niet op ratio.
Het bestuur van de VVR roept daarom hierbij de registrars op, om hun mening over deze kwestie te geven. Mail uw reactie naar communicatie@verenigingvanregistrars.nl en laat het bestuur weten wat uw mening over de App en de gang van zaken is. Als blijkt dat de genoemde bezwaren breed gedragen zijn, dan maakt het bestuur met deze brede steun een krachtiger vuist. Mocht bijval uitblijven, dan kunnen wij concluderen dat de heer Meijer gelijk heeft en laten wij de zaak verder rusten.

SIDN zoekt pretesters Webinterface
Het bestuur van de Vereniging van Registrars is benaderd door SIDN met de vraag of er binnen onze vereniging leden geïnteresseerd zijn om op korte termijn als ‘webinterface pretester’ voor SIDN te fungeren. SIDN heeft aangegeven dat zij in totaal drie pretesters nodig heeft, die voldoen aan het volgende profiel:
- Heavy-user van de huidige webinterface
- Ruime ervaring met gebruikersacceptatietesten
- Beschikbaar op 29 maart 2012
- Minimaal twee jaar ervaring als registrar voor .nl
De pretest vindt plaats bij SIDN in Arnhem. De vergoeding is 100 euro per uur (ex BTW), met een maximum van 8 uur per dag. Reiskosten kunnen gedeclareerd worden.

Van Dam Act/Billing

The RA has obtained external legal advice regarding the likely implications of the so-called ‘Van Dam Act’: a law amending the Dutch Civil Code in a way that rules out contract conditions that are considered to be unfair to consumers. Since 1 December 2011, a contract must allow a consumer to cancel at no more than one month’s notice once the initial contract term (which is limited to one year) has expired. There are various ways that a registrar can remain within the law. One is to explicitly agree a new contract with the client each year. Initial contracts with a term of more than a year are another option, but a consumer would still be able to cancel after the first year, unless he or she had received a substantial benefit in return for agreeing a multi-year contract. Technology Committee

Once the Technology Committee had a full complement of members, Ewout de Graaf was appointed Chairman and began extensive discussions with SIDN about the implementation of DNSSEC and the new web interface. Both the Committee and SIDN are satisfied with the outcome. In recent months, however, the Technology Committee has lost two valued members: Sander Manneke (previously at InternetToday) and Gerben Versluis (previously at WideXS). We are therefore looking for new people willing to take their places. With a view to ensuring that the Committee has the necessary competences and represents the breadth of the registrar community, we would ideally like someone working for a relatively small organisation, who has experience of using the DRS’s web interface. Anyone who is interested is invited to contact vz.techniek@verenigingvanregistrars.nl explaining why they think they are suitable.

Marcom Committee

The Marketing & Communication Committee has also held its first meeting and elected its first chairman: Tony Moore. The main business of meeting, other than Tony’s appointment, was to redefine the Committee’s objective and strategy. The functional profile, tasks and division of duties were all reviewed. An initial meeting with SIDN was also arranged, at which the agenda for the period ahead will be decided, as a starting point for realising the Committee’s objectives and ambitions.

Website

In the first half of 2012, the intention is to define the Association’s house style. An initial version of the website will also be created, to which additional functionality will subsequently be added on a phased basis. Discussions have been held with the Board to identify the functionality that the new website should ultimately have. Development of the website and the house style is to be contracted out.
Both the Board and the various committees are clear that the website should provide registrars with access to information about the RA’s activities on their behalf, in the form of portfolio and consultation topic updates. The Board and/or committee members with responsibility for the various portfolios and topics will then update the relevant area of the website periodically to keep members abreast of developments. In addition, registrars will be able to use the site to have their say on current issues and to suggest new issues that the Board should take up.

Supervisory Board
The Registrars’ Association is involved in the appointment of one member of SIDN’s Supervisory Board. The right to be consulted on the appointment was won by the initiative group behind the RA’s formation, and is formally acknowledged in the cooperation agreement between the RA and SIDN. The appointment of a Supervisory Board member is one of the focuses of RA policy. SIDN’s Executive Board is not obliged to appoint the RA’s nominee, but the Supervisory Board can use its influence to make sure that the Executive doesn’t lightly ignore the RA’s views.

iPhone app
In September 2011, SIDN launched an iPhone app, which can be used to look up WHOIS information. Various registrars contacted the RA to complain about the app, because they had invested in the development of similar products themselves and regarded the SIDN app as a rival. Dissatisfaction was heightened by the fact that SIDN’s app had functionalities that registrars couldn’t match, because SIDN didn’t give them access to the necessary data. The special features included an ‘alike’ function for widening the search with wildcards and a ‘follow’ function that allows for a user to be notified when a domain name’s status changes.

In line with its members’ grievances, the RA advised SIDN to take the app off line. However, SIDN declined to do so. Ultimately, the RA Board agreed to a compromise, under which the app would remain available, provided that the discrepancy between the app’s functionality and the functionality that registrars were technically able to offer was removed. A level playing field could be accomplished either by stripping the app of exclusive features or by giving registrars access to the data needed bring the functionality of their own products up to a similar level. Details of the deal were communicated to the membership through various channels.
To our surprise, it became apparent early this year that the RA Board and SIDN had different interpretations of what had been agreed. SIDN was willing to remove the ‘alike’ function from the app, but intended to retain the ‘follow’ function, on the grounds that by the end of the year the capability to offer such a function would be extended to registrars. Naturally, the Board was unhappy that the functional disparity was to remain for at least the rest of the year. A firmly worded communication was accordingly sent to SIDN. Despite these representations, SIDN has been unwilling to amend its stance. When asked to justify the intransigence, SIDN’s CEO, Roelof Meijer, said that he felt that the registrars would not be seriously disadvantaged by the competition from SIDN. He added that he regarded the objections as motivated more by emotion than by reason.
The RA Board is therefore asking members for feedback on this issue: what do you think of the app and of the way that this issue has been handled? Please e-mail your views to communicatie@verenigingvanregistrars.nl. If it appears that the objections previously voiced to the RA Board have widespread support amongst the membership, the Board will conclude that it has a mandate for more resolute opposition. If, on the other hand, the feedback suggests that Mr Meijer’s assessment is correct, we will let the matter drop.

SIDN is looking for pretesters Webinterface

The RA Board has been contacted by SIDN about the search for pretesters for the new webinterface, which will take place soon. SIDN has requested 3 pretesters in this stage of the development, who all need to meet the following profile:
Heavy-user current webinterface
Great experience with user acceptabilitytests
Available March 29th
At least two years experience as NL registrar
This pretest will take place at SIDN in Arnhem, Netherlands. The tester will be compensated for travel expenses and with 100 euro ex VAT/ hr with a maximum of 8 hours.

Welkom bij de allereerste nieuwsbrief van de Vereniging van Registrars (VvR). Deze nieuwsbrief wordt verstuurd naar alle registrars die bij de VvR zijn aangesloten.

Stevige fundering van de VvR

Tijdens de eerste Algemene Ledenvergadering eind juni werd het voorgestelde bestuur van de VvR officieel benoemd. Dit bestuur bestaat op dit moment uit: voorzitter Erik Logtenberg (Vevida), Arno Vis (Hosting Concepts), Robert Nieuwenhuijse (Vircon), Vince van Domburg (SysTech Media), Mark de Wildt (Totaalnet), Norbert van der Knaap (KPN) en Peter Dost (Novagraaf).

De oprichting van de VvR, begin april, is het resultaat van anderhalf jaar vergaderen en onderhandelen tussen SIDN, registrars en hun belangenorganisaties, de Stichting ISP Belang en de Vereniging ISPConnect. De VvR vervangt daarmee de bestaande, maar al een aantal jaren inactieve, Raad van Deelnemers.

De VvR is een onafhankelijke vereniging die leden met raad en daad bij staat en gevraagd en ongevraagd adviezen geeft aan SIDN. Daarnaast wordt de VvR actief betrokken bij de benoeming van één van de leden van de Raad van Toezicht van SIDN.

Basis

Sinds de oprichting heeft het bestuur veel gedaan om een stevige basis voor de vereniging te leggen. “De vereniging van registrars moet er vooral voor zorgen dat SIDN een geöliede organisatie is”, zegt voorzitter Erik Logtenberg. “Er is niet direct aanleiding om grote veranderingen door te voeren, maar we gaan wel met SIDN om de tafel zitten over de fundamentele invulling van de doelen van de .nl-registry.”

Webreus

Eén van de adviezen die de VvR sinds haar oprichting naar SIDN heeft gestuurd, gaat over de kwestie Webreus, waarbij SIDN deze registrar ultimatum stelde betreffende communicatie naar hun klantenbestand.

Naar aanleiding hiervan heeft het bestuur van de VvR SIDN geadviseerd over het opstellen van een beleid voor de manier waarop in het algemeen moet worden omgegaan met onbereikbare registrars. Bovendien vindt de VvR het ongepast dat SIDN problemen bij een registrar in de openbaarheid brengt terwijl de verplichtingen aan de .nl-registry wel zijn nagekomen.

Ook heeft de VvR aan SIDN laten weten dat geruchten over de vermeende slechte financiële situatie van de isp onwenselijk en schadelijk zijn. Het aanscherpen van de procedures rond disfunctionerende registrars staat de komende tijd op de agenda van de juridische commissie van de VvR.

Wet Van Dam

Op 1 december is de Wet Van Dam in werking getreden. De Wet Van Dam bepaalt dat consumenten hun langlopende contracten (zoals abonnementen) op elk moment mogen opzeggen met een opzegtermijn van maximaal een maand. Dit recht  ontstaat na de eerste stilzwijgende verlenging. Bij contracten die meteen voor onbepaalde tijd worden aangegaan geldt dit opzegtermijn meteen.

Naar aanleiding van deze wet heeft SIDN aangegeven dat een goede oplossing lijkt om hun facturatiecyclus aan te passen van het huidige (per kwartaal) naar een maandelijkse, zodat deze facturatie beter aansluit op de Wet van Dam. Het bestuur is van mening  dat maandfacturatie de registrars enigszins tegemoet komt, maar heeft liever een structurele discussie over facturatie, er zijn namelijk ook registrars die een voorkeur hebben voor jaarfacturatie. De VvR wint op dit moment advies in  over de mogelijkheden om de gevolgen van de wet van Dam voor registrars te beperken. Uiteraard blijft  de VvR de verdere ontwikkelingen nauwgezet volgen en SIDN adviseren  om de belangen van de registrars optimaal te behartigen.

iPhone app

Ook heeft de VvR eind september feedback gegeven over SIDN iPhone app die is uitgekomen. Met de app kan iedereen de status van .nl-domeinnamen bekijken en volgen. De applicatie biedt een soort uitgebreide whois-functie.

Bij sommige registrars is dit verkeerd gevallen omdat zij zelf al een app hadden laten ontwikkelen en omdat er functies in zitten die voor registrars niet beschikbaar zijn. Zij zagen het daarom als een vorm van valse concurrentie. Dit samen met het feit dat de app onaangekondigd uitkwam, heeft tot verbazing en discussie onder registrars geleid.

SIDN is door de VvR van deze bezwaren op de hoogte gesteld een heeft daarop besloten de app aan te passen en enkele functies te verwijderen.

Commissies

Om de vereniging zo efficiënt en daadkrachtig mogelijk te maken, is een aantal commissies met deeltaken ingesteld. Op dit moment zijn er twee commissies: de commissie marketing & communicatie en de technische commissie. De derde – juridische – commissie is in oprichting.

De technische en marketing-communicatie commissies waren ooit klankbordgroepen voor SIDN en worden nu als commissies van de VvR opnieuw ingezet. De juridische commissie bestond nog niet. Deze gaat zich onder meer bezighouden met de juridische kwesties rond de .nl-domeinnamen, zoals de algemene voorwaarden, regelgevende kaders en de geschillenregeling. Iedereen die daarin geïnteresseerd is, kan zich aanmelden bij het VvR-bestuur.

De marketing-communicatie commissie heeft als taak de communicatie tussen SIDN en de houders/registrars te onderhouden. Daarnaast zal zij zich buigen over het logogebruik, eventuele marketingcampagnes, acties ter ondersteuning van .nl en het prijsbeleid van SIDN.

De technische commissie houdt zich bezig met ICT-gerelateerde onderwerpen zoals de prioritering release management, het reviewen van relevante documentatie en advisering over het ICT-beleid.

Plannen voor 2012

Voor het komende jaar heeft de verenigng een aantal belangrijke onderwerpen op de agenda staan. De onderwerpen die de vereniging bij SIDN wil aankaarten zijn veelal strategisch van aard, maar soms ook heel praktisch.

Zoals eerder beschreven wordt er door SIDN gewerkt aan de facturatiecyclus van domeinnamen. Ook is de VvR actief op zoek naar een meest geschikte kandidaat voor de Raad van Toezicht (RvT). Daarnaast stuurt de vereniging binnenkort een enquête naar de leden om te peilen welke onderwerpen zij graag besproken of veranderd willen hebben. Uiteraard is het ook mogelijk om dat nu al door te geven aan: communicatie@verenigingvanregistrars.nl.

Welcome to the very first newsletter from the Registrars’ Association (RA), which is going out to all affiliated registrars.

RA on a sound footing

At the first Members’ General Meeting in late June, the nominees for the RA’s board were formally appointed. As a result, the RA now has a board consisting of: Erik Logtenberg (chairman; Vevida), Arno Vis (Hosting Concepts), Robert Nieuwenhuijse (Vircon), Vince van Domburg (SysTech Media), Mark de Wildt (Totaalnet), Norbert van der Knaap (KPN) and Peter Dost (Novagraaf).

The RA’s formation at the start of April was the result of eighteen months of meetings and negotiations involving SIDN, registrars and the two bodies that represent the registrar community: the ISP Belang foundation and the ISPConnect association. The newly formed RA takes on the mantle of the Council of Registrars, which, although still in existence, had been inactive for several years.

The RA is an independent association that exists to provide its members with information and support and to provide SIDN with solicited and unsolicited advice. The RA is also actively involved in the appointment of one member of SIDN’s Supervisory Board.

Fundamentals

Since the RA came into being, its board has been working hard to put the association on a sound footing. “The RA’s main task is to ensure that SIDN is a smooth-running organisation,” says chairman Erik Logtenberg. “We see no immediate reason to pursue major change, but we will be sitting down with SIDN for fundamental talks about what the .nl registry’s role should be.”

Webreus

One of the subjects that the RA has already written to SIDN about is the registry’s handling of the Webreus question. Earlier this year, SIDN issued an ultimatum to the registrar Webreus, concerning the latter’s communication with its clients.

In the light of that incident, the RA’s board has advised SIDN on the definition of a general policy for situations where a registrar cannot be contacted. It was also made clear to SIDN that the RA considered it inappropriate for the registry to publicise any difficulties that a registrar might be having, if the registrar had not defaulted on its obligations to SIDN.

In addition, the RA highlighted the damage and undesirable consequences liable to result from the circulation of rumours about an ISP’s financial position. The definition of clearer and more appropriate procedures to be followed in the event of registrar dysfunction is one of the topics that the RA’s Legal Committee will be examining in the period ahead.

Van Dam Act

On 1 December, the Van Dam Act came into force in the Netherlands. This new law gives consumers the right to cancel long-term contracts (e.g. subscription contracts) at any time, subject to a maximum of one month’s notice. With a fixed-term contract, the entitlement to cancel starts from the first tacit extension of the original contract. With an indefinite contract, the consumer’s cancellation right exists from the outset.

Against this background, SIDN has suggested sending its registrars monthly bills instead of quarterly bills, as a way of helping them comply with the Act. The RA’s board sees monthly billing as a welcome move, but not a complete solution. The board would like a fundamental review of the way SIDN bills its registrars, since some would prefer to be invoiced annually, for example. The RA is in the process of obtaining expert advice on ways of mitigating the Van Dam Act’s impact on registrars. Naturally, the RA will continue to monitor developments closely and will advise SIDN as and when appropriate, with a view to protecting and promoting registrars’ interests.

iPhone app

At the end of September, the RA also wrote to SIDN about its new iPhone app. Using this app, anyone can check and keep tabs on the status of .nl domain names. In other words, the app works as a sort of sophisticated Whois for the iPhone.

Some registrars are unhappy about SIDN launching this product, because they were working on similar apps of their own. SIDN’s app is regarded as having an unfair advantage over registrar-developed apps, because it incorporates functionality based on SIDN’s exclusive access to certain data. The sense of unfair competition, coupled with the app’s unannounced launch, caused considerable agitation within the registrar community.

After being made aware of these issues by the RA, SIDN has agreed to modify the app, so that it no longer features exclusive functionality.

Committees

With a view to making the RA as efficient and effective as possible, the association is to have several committees, each responsible for a particular field. Two committees have so far been created: a Marketing & Communication Committee and a Technical Committee. They will shortly be supplemented by a Legal Committee.

The Marketing & Communication Committee and the Technical Committee are the existing consultation bodies set up by SIDN, reformed under the RA banner. The Legal Committee will be an entirely new body. It will address legal matters associated with .nl domain names, such as SIDN’s General Terms and Conditions, the regulatory context and the dispute resolution system. Anyone who would like to be considered for this committee is invited to contact the RA’s board.

The Marketing & Communication Committee’s role is to oversee communication between SIDN and its registrants and registrars. It will also look at topics such as logo use, marketing campaigns, initiatives designed to support .nl and SIDN’s pricing policy.

Finally, the Technical Committee will concentrate on ICT-related issues, such as prioritisation in release management, as well as reviewing relevant documentation and advising on ICT policy.

Plans for 2012

Various important matters are on the RA’s agenda for the year ahead. Most of the issues that the association will be taking up with SIDN are strategic, but some are practical day-to-day points.

As indicated above, SIDN is working on a new billing cycle for registry fees, and the RA will be involved in that process. Meanwhile, the RA is actively looking for a suitable person to put forward for a seat on SIDN’s Supervisory Board. Preparations are also underway for a survey of RA members, aimed at building up a picture of the things that registrars would like discussed or changed. But RA members don’t have to wait for the survey to suggest action on a particular front. Beste registrar,

Na ruim twee jaar voorbereiding  is de Vereniging van Registrars (VvR) opgericht. Op 29 juni is tijdens de eerste algemene ledenvergadering unaniem besloten om het voorgedragen eerste bestuur te installeren. Dit was de laatste stap in het traject van de oprichting van de VvR en de eerste stap naar meer invloed van de registrars bij SIDN. Het betekent dat het bestuur nu echt concreet voor u aan de slag gaat.

De VvR is ontstaan vanuit de gedachte alle SIDN-registrars te vertegenwoordigen. Het bestuur maakt zich sterk voor een betere afstemming tussen SIDN en de registrars. De VvR is een onafhankelijke vereniging en zal gevraagd en ongevraagd de SIDN en haar leden met raad en adviezen behulpzaam zijn. Daarnaast wordt de VvR actief betrokken bij de benoeming van één van de leden van de Raad van Toezicht van de SIDN.

U kunt de notulen van de eerste algemene ledenvergadering bij ons opvragen; bestuur@verenigingvanregistrars.nl. Zoals u kunt nalezen zijn de formaliteiten nu afgehandeld. Het bestuur is in stelling gebracht. Er is werk aan de winkel. Wij zijn volledig gecommitteerd om de samenwerking tussen SIDN en de registrars verder te optimaliseren. Dear Registrar,

After at least two years of preparation the Association of Registrars (Vereniging van Registrars, VvR) has been formed. During the first general meeting, on 29 June, it was unanimously decided to appoint the first board, as proposed. This was the last step in the process of forming the VvR and the first step towards more influence for registrars at the SIDN. It means that the board can now really take action on your behalf.

The VvR came into being as a result of the idea of representation for all SIDN registrars. The board is committed to better coordination of affairs between the SIDN and registrars. The VvR is an independent association and will spontaneously inititiate as well as respond to requests for counsel and advice to assist the SIDN and its members. In addition, the VvR will be actively involved in the appointment of one of the members of the Supervisory Board of the SIDN.

The board has been appointed. And there is work to be done. We are fully committed to further optimalise the cooperation between the SIDN and registrars.
